Here's me, down 18 pounds in just 3 weeks!

So I’ve been doing lots of talking about P90x and about individual workouts, but I’ve never actually discussed it as a whole. Today seems like a good day to do that!

P90x is an extreme home workout program developed by celeb trainer Tony Horton. I’ll be honest, when I first heard about it I was thinking cheesy workout DVD series… I don’t think I’ve ever been so wrong.

This is the workout I wish I knew about while training in the off-seasons for football. It blows away anything I’ve done in years of working out and training for competitive sports. And I do it from home without a weight room full of equipment.

The “science” behind the workout is called “muscle confusion”. I won’t get to much into that but to say, you do a lot of different things, different workouts, and focus on the same muscle groups in many different ways. Basically, you’re keeping your muscles guessing and don’t let them surf on “cruise control”.

Have you ever noticed that when you go to the gym you do the same thing over and over. I’m so bad at this. I’d go 3-4 times a week and do bench, curls, squats, incline, flies, leg press, leg curls. Every now and again I’d add in a new machine, but basically I was a creature of habit.

With P90x, in the 90 days, you rarely do the same exercise more than once a week for 3 weeks. It’s broken up into 3 phases consisting of 3 weekly regiments (one week you basically learn how to do it, second week you get better, 3rd week you master the routines)… Then you get a week of “recovery” which focuses on your core strength.

After the 4 weeks you switch and do different exercises but work the same muscles. This ensures you’re always pushing yourself and working harder. This is the key to results! If you did 90 days of the same exercises for exactly the same amount of time, you wouldn’t see NEARLY the results you do with P90x.

Now, is this program for everyone? No. It’s pretty advanced and was designed for someone who’s already in pretty good shape. But there’s good news! There is a program that offers a similar design that was created for out of shapers! It’s called Power 90 and is also by Tony Horton. I’ve done some of the workouts and they aren’t easy by any stretch, but are a bit shorter (35-40 mins usually) and offer less intense exercises.

If you’ve been working out and just feel like you aren’t going anywhere, or your naturally athletic but haven’t been pushing yourself, I highly recommend P90x. It will inspire you and the results speak for themselves.

If you’re out of shape and need a jumpstart, Power 90 is the way to go. It’s designed to lose weight and get in great shape!

The best part, both programs are done from the comfort of your living room and need very little equipment to do! A DVD player and some bands and you’re set to go! Power 90 even comes with the bands!
